Though the one big thing it needs like yesterday is like double the number of maps. It’d be the icing on the cake instead of the band-aid to distract people from the deeper issues. If the game proper were fixed you wouldn’t need more content. OW has a lot of problems and sprinkling in content is like putting lipstick on a pig. There’s enough actual cover and healthpacks distributed in levels to actually facilitate your own gameplay. You can peek out from cover without being instagibbed by the entire cast. TF2 has longevity because it’s not frustrating to play. Also some hefty nerfs to other heroes for other reasons but that’s another discussion. Like, if we could get some severe damage, range, or rate of fire nerfs across the board this game would be in excellent condition. Different heroes have it differently, but we have hypermobility that requires burst damage and CC to pin down, the game is overrun with OHKO’s and instagib combos making every other type of damage output basically obsolete, and so on.

Most of the problems stem from heroes that have insufficient tradeoffs for some of the advantages they have. Then those same devs and pro players are suddenly quiet when you ask them how sustain-damage heroes are supposed to survive and thrive in such an environment. Pro players and devs will be quick to tell you that’s entirely the point - you’re supposed to use natural cover as much as possible.

Current damage levels are way too high, too many heroes have too much precision damage at too much range, making it hazardous to be exposed for any length of time. OW’s problem is the core gameplay loop is bad. Most are just tolerable, and at least two are infamously bad.

There’s actually not that many maps, one entire game mode is despised by a large swath of the community, and very few maps are actually considered “good”. Whenever this comes up I feel compelled to say that the lack of new content isn’t the problem. Theres absolutely no way this game will stay alive…with 0 content updates.
